Best Mountain Bikes of 2022; Are You Ready to Get Thrilled?

Ibis Ripmo V2 XT

The Ibis Ripmo V2 XT is the king of the best mountain bicycle brands of 2022. It impressed our testers. The suspension kinematics were adjusted to make it more progressive at the end of the stroke and the Ripmo’s geometry was revised to make it shorter and slacker. This long-legged 29er was already a confident and capable descender, but its stability at speed and improved big-hit performance make it feel even more composed in rough terrain.

The rear end is sporty thanks to its short chainstays and lively, energetic handling that is responsive and precise. With its effective DW-Link suspension platform, steep seat tube angle, and direct power transfer, the V2 maintains its exceptional climbing capabilities. The Ripmo is a bike that can do everything and does it well, which is why it has been dubbed a “quiver killer.”

Specialized Stumpjumper EVO Comp

With the introduction of the brand-new Stumpjumper EVO, Specialized nailed it. One of the hardest-charging trail bikes we’ve tested has a 160mm fork and 150mm travel. As one of the top mountain bikes to buy in 2022, this bicycle slides with power, the updated FSR suspension stage is closed flawlessly, and this bicycle eats everything in its way. With a pedaling platform that is relatively supportive and a nice steep seat tube angle, it climbs pretty darn well. The unusually adaptable geometry of this redesigned bike is one of its most intriguing features.

The bottom bracket can be raised or lowered by 7mm, and the head tube angle can be adjusted quickly and easily in increments of one degree between 63.5 and 65.5 degrees. Six distinct geometry settings are available to the rider, allowing them to tailor their preferences, riding style, or terrain. For everyday trail riding, set it steep and high, and for running laps at the bike park, set it low and loose. Your decision is final. On-bike storage and Specialized’s attention to detail continue to impress. A 20 oz water bladder and a zippered tool sleeve that fits inside the frame have been added to the SWAT storage compartment so you don’t have to carry a pack and don’t run out of water.

Yeti SB130 TURQ X01

The Yeti SB130 is a mid-travel trail slayer that works well as a daytime commuter or as a stand-alone bike. In many places, this 130mm 29er makes a lot of sense for many riders. The Yeti has you covered for fast, rolling, flow trails as well as all-day backcountry missions, hence we have it here in our guide to the best mountain bikes of 2022. You get a great climbing position and excellent efficiency from this bicycle. The rear wheel tracks very well through technical and rough climbs, and the climbing traction is excellent.

It has sharp handling and impressive downhill performance. The SB130 shreds almost any downhill trail, except for true enduro-grade trails, thanks to its mean front end and aggressive angles. It is without a doubt pricey, but if you’re looking for the best, it might be something to think about. If you want a well-balanced trail bike that climbs very well and gets wild when you come down the mountain, get it. The majority of singletrack is a natural fit for the SB130. It’s an excellent all-purpose bike.

Ibis Ripley GX Eagle

The Ibis Ripley GX Eagle, their most popular 29-inch-wheeled trail bike, recently underwent a complete redesign. Due to its lively ride and unparalleled playfulness, the previous model was our favorite short travel model among other items of this guide to the best mountain bikes for 2022. The most recent Ripley keeps most of its playful attitude, but it is now a much more well-rounded bike with better downhill capabilities and much better stability at high speeds. It has a shorter 66.5-degree head tube angle and a steeper 76.2-degree seat tube angle.

There is no longer a speed limit at The Ripley, but pops and trailside hits are still welcome. It also inspires much more self-assurance in steep and rough terrain, despite its limited travel numbers. The majority of riders will find the Ripley to be a very practical trail bike. This lightweight ride is similarly skilled on the trips as on the plunges. It is the best all-around short-travel bike we tested and has unparalleled versatility. It is the best option for biking long distances, where comfort and efficiency are critical.

Polygon Siskiu T8

One of the best mountain bicycle brands of 2022 is the Polygon Siskiu T8, which cost less than $3,000. This moderately priced trail bike has a 140mm fork and 29-inch wheels with 135mm of rear wheel travel. The Siskiu’s math checks generally current boxes giving this bicycle a pleasantly balanced and flexible presentation. It’s relatively easy to ride, easy to get along with, and suitable for riders of all abilities. This bike is fun for both inexperienced and experienced riders alike.

It is responsive and agile, but it is also stable at high speeds and inspires confidence on descents. The Siskiu impressed us as a comfortable climber that also performed well and could be used for any length of ride. The distinctive design of the Siskiu is perhaps its most impressive feature. For the money, this bike has a lot going for it, making it better on both climbs and descents.

Giant Stance 29 2

The Giant Stance 29 2 is a great illustration of the company’s reputation for producing high-quality bicycles at very reasonable prices. Even though the price of this bike as a whole is roughly half that of many carbon frames on their own, it performs exceptionally well on the trail. This budget-friendly trail bike has a 130mm travel fork and 29-inch wheels with a 120mm rear wheel suspension. It climbs with vivacity and efficiency, and while our testers were riding it, they even recorded some of their fastest-ever times uphill. The Stance proved to be both comfortable and capable on the descents, and the suspension appears to be balanced. We believe this bike is an outrageous value due to the component specifications, which are of high quality for the price.

The Stance has a few minor issues that we are unhappy with. We believe that a dropper seat post, which would enhance its downhill performance, is not included with this bike. We believe that a set of beefier tires would greatly improve overall performance despite the stock tires’ non-aggressive and rapid roll. Aside from that, we think this is a great full-suspension bike for beginners for all-around riding. Depending on your preference, it is also available with 27.5-inch wheels. No list of the top mountain bikes to buy in 2022 is complete without this bicycle.

Specialized Fuse Expert 29

After the 2020 update, the Specialized Fuse Expert 29 will continue to be our favorite hardtail. The Specialized Fuse has been our favorite hardtail for a long time. The Fuse recently underwent a complete redesign, and now comes with 29-inch wheels and updated geometry. Its extraordinarily balanced performance intrigued each analyzer. It doesn’t go overboard with its modern and forward-thinking geometry.

In corners, in the air, and while charging down moderately chunky rock gardens, it inspires confidence and is stable at speed. On the climbs, it is far from an XC race bike, but it has a 12-speed drivetrain, a comfortable seated pedaling position, and a grippy 2.6-inch rear tire that provides excellent traction, features earning it a spot in this guide to the best mountain bikes of 2022. The new Fuse 29 weighs nearly 30 pounds. There are, without a doubt, lighter, more effective, and even more affordable options. The new Fuse Expert 29’s well-rounded, versatile, and outrageously fun performance, on the other hand, cannot be matched by any of the other bikes we tested.

Specialized Turbo Levo Comp

The Turbo Levo Comp Alloy received an update for the 2022 model year in conjunction with the Stumpjumper EVO’s updates. The geometry of the Specialized Levo, like that of the unpowered Stumpjumper, is highly adjustable, allowing riders to significantly alter its character to suit their riding style, terrain, and preferences. You can set it up to be a more agile trail bike, an aggressive gravity-oriented slayer, or anything in between thanks to the six different geometry settings.

This bike truly expands its versatility and puts it in a class of its own with its unprecedented level of adjustability. With a 160mm fork, mixed wheel sizes, and 150mm of rear wheel travel, it has a confident front end and is easy to maneuver in the back. With 90Nm of torque and up to 565 peak watts of output, the Turbo Full Power 2.2 motor from Specialized offers three programmable levels of pedaling support. 700Wh of battery is housed in the edge’s downtube, giving a fantastic distance range, and the entire bundle has been refined and very much coordinated with adjusted weight dispersion for a characteristic ride feel. If you are making a list of the best mountain bikes for 2022, don’t forget this one.

Canyon Spectral:ON CF 8

Canyon recently updated their Spectral:ON models and the Spectral:ON CF 8 is a well-rounded trail e-MTB that also happens to be one of the best values on the market. This carbon-framed bike rolls on mixed wheels (29-inch front and 27.5-inch rear), has 150/155mm of front/rear travel and has a modern geometry that perfectly suits its trail-oriented intentions, features putting it in any list of the best mountain bicycle brands of 2022. Despite its 50+ pound weight, we found it handles well at different velocities and territories, with a phenomenal mix of spryness, security, and self-control, in all circumstances.

The enduringly popular Shimano EP8 motor has three programmable support settings, allowing you to tailor it to your requirements and produce a torque of up to 85 Nm. Additionally, it has the longest range of any electric mountain bike we tested thanks to its massive 900 Wh battery. This bike has excellent build quality for the price. We think the Spectral:ON CF 8 gives you a lot for your money.

Trek Farley 7

The Trek Farley 7 is a high-quality fat bike that features a suspension fork and dropper seat post for enhanced performance. This versatile bike is at home grinding out miles on groomed trails, packed singletracks, and even some dirt trails thanks to its middle-of-the-road geometry that performs well on both climbs and descents. Whether ascending or descending, the hefty 4.5-inch Bontrager Gnarwahl tires provide a great deal of traction on snow, sand, and dirt. On the descents, however, the Farley 7 stands out from the competition because it rides more like a mountain bike than the others. The dropper post lowers the saddle out of the way so you can move around the bike, and the front 80mm suspension helps cushion rough snow or chunky rocks. Compared to the other fat bikes we tested, riding a dirt bike in mixed weather and on dirt trails is far more fun and capable.

With a weight of 36 pounds and 11 ounces, the Farley 7 is not light. It is not the best choice for racing because of its weight, which may be noticeable on climbs and during long rides. Having said that, we had a lot of fun riding this bike, so the weight didn’t bother us too much. We believe the Farley 7 is worth a look if you’re looking for a fat bike among the top mountain bikes to buy in 2022.

Chameleon D AL

Source: bicycling.com

The unheralded heroes of mountain biking are the Chameleon D AL aluminum hardtails. A good aluminum hardtail remains a great option for many riders hitting the trails, despite being frequently overlooked in favor of flashier carbon-fiber rigs or intricate full-suspension designs. The Chameleon could be your next bike if this sounds like you: you want to go fast but don’t need a lot of travel, or you don’t want to deal with the extra upkeep that comes with a full-suspension bike.

The $2,400 Chameleon D AL features a 12-speed SRAM Eagle drivetrain, grippy Maxxis tubeless tires, and an SDG dropper post. It is available with dual 29-inch wheels or MX wheels (29-inch front, 27.5-inch rear). If you want to ride the bike at a single speed, you can easily swap out the dropouts because the Chameleon frame has a lot of standover clearance. All you expect from the best mountain bikes of 2022 is included in this bike.

Heckler CC MX

Santa Cruz’s second-generation Heckler e-bike received several improvements that set it apart from the first model, but the three most important ones are as follows: a flip-chip that alters geometry and suspension, a much larger 720Wh battery, and two 29-inch wheels (in addition to the MX’s 29-inch front and 27.5-inch rear mixed option). An already excellent e-bike is made even better by these modifications. The Heckler is a simple e-bike with no frills thanks to the Shimano motor system and its Santa Cruz-like design. There are no obnoxious apps or awkward controls. A bike reviewer’s worst nightmares are the riding position, geometry, and handling but in this bike they are all so well-organized. As a result, the brand-new Heckler is approachable as well as capable. It’s easy to ride and use, but you can always use it to push yourself. In the sky of the best mountain bikes of 2022, this model is a shiny star.
